THE ISLAND BAY FATALITY.

INQUEST HELD. An inquest touching tho death of Soj Cornish, the, victim of Saturday night's bicycln accident at Island Bay, was held at the hospital yesterday afternoon by (>lr. W. K. Ilasslden, coroner. Strgeanl Muthieson watched tho proceedings on behalf yl thu police. Mary Fenton, wiie of Chas. E. Fenton, with whom deceased collided,' gavu evidence to the effect that her first intimation oi anything happening was a cry of "Look out!" from behind, aud the nest thing was a violent collision which threw her husband violently lurwoyd to th* ground. The hid was found nbout fivß yards away, entangled with the bicycle. Tho place was vtry dark, and the road in a dangerous condition. She did not notice any light burning anywhere near tho locality.

J. R. Cornish, father of tho deceased, stated that the place where the* ncuidcnl occurred was in a dangerous condition. His .son was a careful rider, iiud always carried a light at night. Mr. Mackny and Constable Willoetts, who was called to the scene -jf the accident, gave corroborative evidence, th« latter declaring that the ligbt ou the aido of the road was out.

Dr. Hardwicko Smith, medical superintendent at the hospital, certified tnut death was caused through a fracture of the base of the skull and hemorrhage of the brain.

A verdict of accidentally killed was returned by the coroner.

[Mr. Fen ton is still lying in a serious condition at his residence at Island Bay.]
