'FRISCO MAIL SERVICE.
PROPOSED RE-ESTABLISHMENT. Subject to the passing of the American Ship Subsidy Bill, it is said to bo-not at all improbable (says the "Sydney Morning H<?rald") that an effort will be made to re-establish the Frisco-Sydney mail service, which was formerly maintained by the Sierra, Sonoma, and Ventura. If the idea materialises, the proposal at present is to build two up-to-date vessels with large passenger accommodation and refrigerating space lor the carriage of 'Australian meats and butter. These would be oil-burners. The old vessels would also bo so converted. The ftret could, it is said, be ready within a year from the passing of the Bill. Failing: ;i subsidy Itoih the United States Government for the line, it is proposed to establish a regular service /of cargo steamers. The whole scheme is at present bains inquired into by a representative of tlie management of the Spreckels line of steamers, who is in Sydney.
