"My Lord Bishop, clergy, ajid laity of the liioccso oi Wellington, in Sjnod assembled.—l thank you' sincerely for your loyai and hearty welcome to mo as the representative in New Zealand of his King George, and l'or your assurance oi loyal dcroiion to the tlironc and person of his Majnsty. I inn much touched by your prayer that the Divine blessing may rest upon me in tho exercise of the high office to which I have been called, anil by you , good wishes for the health and happiness of Lad; Islington and my daughter. Her Excellency and I anticipate grout pleusur* from our sojourn in the Dominion, and this feeling is encouraged by the receipt of euch kindly wordwl resolutions as that tendered by you. 1 trust that the present session of the Synod will bo successful and result in forwarding your efforts in the cause of humanity.—lslington."
