His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington, accompanied by Mr. Kcrr Clark (private secretary) and Captain Makgiil-Maitiand, A.D.C., left for Auckland by the Main Trunk express yesterday, they will return to Wellington on Thursday next. His Excellency will probably be an unofficial visitor to the Grand National meeting at Christchurch on August Q.
Mr, J. W. Joynt, Begistrar of the New Zealand University, left for the south last evening to attend the capping ceremony at Dunedin.
Dr. W. Kington Fyffe, of Wellington, is at present on a visit to Dunedin in connection with the Otago University medical examinations.
Says the "British Australasian": "The Hon. W. nail-Jones has quite recovered from his sudden seizure of illness in St. George's Chapel during the performance of the last rites at lung Edward's funeral."
Miss Violet Wurburton will leave Wellington for Australia on the expiration of her dancing classes.
Messrs. Harry and George EHwood, the clever Christchurch musicians, will leave, for London, en route to Vienna, by the Arawa on Thursday. Mr. B. A. Home, manager of the Dresden Piano Company at ChVistchureh, who is proceeding Home on business, will see the gifted lads safe to their destination. '
A Press Association cable message from Brisbane, published yesterday morning, announced the arrival of Mr. Bcfldoo, Canadian Trade Commissioner to New Zealand. From inquiries made yesterday, nothing appears to be known as to the appointment specifically to New Zealand of a trade commissioner. Mr. S. Carroll, secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, inclines to the opinion that Mr. Beddou has been _ appointed Commissioner for Australasia in succession to Hie late Mr. J. S. Larke, who died a few mouths ago. This viewis strengthened by the fact that, just before Mr. Larko's death, he wrote to Mr. Carroll intima.ling his intention of visiting New Zealand in the Mar future.
Our Feildiug correspondent states that word has been received stating that Mr. and Mrs. E. Short have left Buenos Ayres for England by the Corinthic.

Deceased leaves four sons, Mr. John Jlunro (manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Stratford), Mr. George Munro (Liverpool, well-known as tho general manager of the New Zealand International Exhibition), Mr. Joseph Mimro (Adelaide Steamship Company), and Mr. Fergus Munro (Westport); also, four daughters, Mrs. S.
