THE CARRENO RECITALS.
Sir,—Some few weeks ago much space m your paper was devoted to the dis- . cussion of- tho comet —its advent, its character, its progress, and its glory— together with that of tho morning star ' —one splendid Friday morning. Thesedetails were items of news collected by the tew in the interests of the many while the people of Wellington slept. ' J.liat jour correspondence columns are open to the' discussion of such phenomena emboldens /mo to bring other strange happenings to your notice. Once moro a dazzling visitant haa brightened our horizon. The world's; greatest pianist (I spell advisedly) has been with us. Her first programme was such- .as might well diuw a lover of music across the Main Trunk line. She expounded Beethoven, and Chopin till a. child might understand. She played so that Schumann in heaven must be happier for knowing that at last his meaning is discovered. She bestowed largesso in . the shape of recalls, .with.'a kindness, a. sweet forgiveness, and.aigenerosity unexampled among the . most magnanimous of those beneficent - beings, who sometimes visit our shores : to remind us we are alive. And now * she is gone. These facts were, of course, noticed m their. due placc .in your columns.. But they should be of personal interest to your readers since again tho details were gathered by the few these last five nights when/as in the early mornings; the people of Wellington slept.— I am, ctc., - : ONE OF THE FEW.
