In the discussion oii tho Irish Estimates in the House of Commons, Mr. Birrell, Chief Secretary for .Ireland, stated that 23,000 houses had been built in Ireland since 1906, under the Labourers' Acts.
Four and a quarter millions sterling had already been spent. "And tho Government is prepared," Mr. Birrell continued, '.'to spend another million on cottages to replace the present stinking mud-heaps." ,-
