MESSRS. ADAMSON AND ROBB.
. Messrs. Adamson and Robb, whoso advertisement' appears in this issue, have been in business in the town for about seven years. The firm makes \ special feature of tailoring, Mr. Robb (cutter), having had experience in Melbourne, and also. .in • the Wellington houses of•the'D.'LG. and'Kirkcaldie and Stains." Tins' business is of an extensive nature, orders being sent all over Taranaki, and as far south as Hunterville. A speciality is also made of ladies' tailoring, in which department the firm turns oftt some very nice work. In addition to tailoring there is a mercery department where there are kept especial selections of shirts, ties, collars, hats, and all those things which are for the comfort and adornment of mail or boy. The firm pays Wellington log 'prices, consequently they turn out nothing but the best work. Special lines are now being shown of Kaiapoi double and single breasted overcoats, which are well worthy of inspection. Sir. William Dodds, mercer and tailor, makes a speciality of clothing and mercery for men and boys. The stock is of good dimensions, with a very attractive window display. Extreme caution is shown in all tailor-made garments, and the firm has established a thorough' reputation for well-fitting clothes. The mercery department is run on city lines.

Ono of the features of the show is' Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd.'s exhibit of Sheep Shearing Machines, Separators, etc. There aro two types of driv-, ing gear, t-he Patent Skew Belt and tho_ Lister Standard gear. The former impresses ono at once by its simplicity and _ silent running qualities, and is specially suitable for low and frail wool- - sheds, in as much as no strengthening of walls is required, and it can be installed in sheds that are too low to take ordinary shearing machinery with- . out the roof of the woolshed. Moreover, there is nothing in' this gear to get out of true, as is the case with friction driven gear. A glance at the Lister tube is quite sufficient to commend it as the best . tube yet placed on the New Zealand market. It is evident that no "pulley"' or will he required by the ' shearer for this tube. The Lister shear has many advant-. agos which enable the cost of mainten- ; ance to be kept down, and vibration ' has been reduced to a minimum. It is . built on the model of a Wolseley No. 3 pattern shear, with certain modifications, which, in the- opinion of Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., will be much appreciated by users. All its parts, how- , ever, are interchangeable with the'. Wolseley No. 3 pattern shear. The Lister combs and cutters are practically perfect, being specially designed; to meet the requirements of the shearer. They are easy to get into the wool, keen cutters, and consequently ensure big tallies. The Lister grinder has a special device to take the. end play and save rehashing at the end of shearing—always a troublesome business. Though only iii the first year of its existence, the Lister has • reached the . top" rung of the ladder, and already holds the New Zealand record for sales ■ of complete stands in any one year up . to April 30. , Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., Wei- 1 liiigton, are the .sole agents .in New.' Zealand, and are prepared to guaran-, tee satisfaction; and as they have had over 20 years' experience as agents for ' ■ the Wolseley Sheep Shearing Machine, and have installed ,more. shearing . machines than all other firms in New Zealand cornbihe'd, it is hardly necessary to say that their opinion carries', considerable weight. ' ■ A special feature of their business is the opportunity given to clients or their employees 'to' become . 'sufficiently ex-' ! perienccchin ''running the shearing'-ma^ 1 chines'' as to' make 1 them independent '' of expert' assistance. This . tuition is carried out- under the supervision of Mr. Alex. Hutchinson and- a "competent T' staff of experts, free of charge, and when wo mention that nearly one hundred pupils were put through a corn-so of instruction last year, it'will readily be seen that- this adjunct to the business meets with due appreciation. . . , Messrs. Lister and Co., Ltd:, are one of the oldest Cream Separator Manufacturers in' England, and- a look' at their dairying appliances would be time well spent by anyone wanting something in this line. The Lister Co. are also responsible for a special line of 2i-, 4, 6, and 8 B.H.P. Oil Engines, which will enhaneo this old-established firm's reputation for turning out the highest quality of machinery only. - Altogether, "the Lister.stand isoneof the -most interesting and attractive exhibits at this year's Winter Show, and a visit to it should on 110 account be . missed. i
