Petone Navals' Ball. Tho annual ball given by the I-'elonc Navals has for many years created a great deal of interest among both I'otonc and Wellington folk, and the bail g:ven on Wednesday night ivas as successful as any of its predecessors. About 300 guests were present, and among the officers thero were; Major Menzios, Captain Ellis, Lieutenants lievan, Butler, and Robinson, while tlie Ii.N.Z.A. were represented by Soi'geauts-Jlajor M'Donald and Withers. The hall was decorated with flags of weird colours, and military emblems i>erc arranged effectively around the walls. The decoiations of the supper-tables wore carried out in bright camellias and rhododendrons. Among the many ladies present were: Mrs. Jiailev, who wore black silk with jot trimmings; 11i>. Shenvin, blue silk; Mrs. Ridge, , bhick silk; Mrs. Cruickshank, black and crimson; Miss Bailey, blue velvet; Miss Finlay, blue silk; Miss C. l'inlay, cream chiffon over yellow silk; Miss Armstrong, pink silk; Miss C. Hartley, cream frock; Miss Brice, green sillv; Mrs. Pollock, cream silk; Miss Parsonson, white; Miss Wollett, pale green silk; Miss C. Sullivan, black; Miss O'Hagan, black; and Miss House, pink frock.

N,Z, Political Reform League. A meeting of the Women's Branch of the iscw Zealand Political Reform League was held last night at the rooms of the league, Boycott Chambers, when Mrs. Newman presided. A very interesting address oil tile planks of the Reform League's platform 'was given by Mr. Martin, organiser for the opposition, and this was afterwards discussed. A programme of music brought the evening to a close.

The Haeremai Hockey Club have issued invitations to a dance in St. Peter's Schoolroom on August 5.

Tlie dance to be given in Sydney Street Schoolroom by the Nurses' Association, promises to be a great success. It will be remembered that the dance they gave last year was one of the most enjoyable of the season, and this year, in a si ill larger hall, it should be even more enjoyable.

Miss Shaw, who came from Dunedm a few months ago to act as secretary of the Young Women's Christian Association, has been obliged to resign on account of ill-health. Last night a farewell social for her was held in the Y.W.C.A. Rooms, on the Quay.

To-day the members of the Miramar Golf Club are playing for trophies given by Mrs. Macarthy.

Last night a skating party was given nt the Rink by members of the Wellesley Club, who entertained a large party of friends there from ten o'clock till "midnight.

The annual military ball was held in the Dketahuim Drill Hall last night, and proved to be one of the most successful social functions of the season. The hall was elaborately decorated with ferns, flowers, and evergreens, and military accoutrements.

At Eketahuna on Wednesday, Mr. Fndlover, of the firm of Messrs. Chambers and Son, Wellington, was married to Miss Amy Anderson, youngest daughter of Mr. Anders Anderson, an old settler of tlie Forty Mils' Bush.
