Tbe committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, met last evening. PreBent Messrs. G. Dixon (in the chair), E. M. Isaacs, N. Galbraith, J. Laughton, A. Laurenson, F. CI. Wullburton, H. Jvelly, and tho secretary, J. D. Avery. ' r \ ü b"re, of Morrisvillc, wrote pointing out that country players were not considered by the selectors when choosing New Zealand representative teams. The writer added that thero were a. number of good players in country districts, and he thought it a good suggestion that a team consisting of playew .solely from country districts should bo sent on tour to the chief centres, tho New Zealand Union to appoint selectors from a list of names submitted to them from the country unions. • •After much discussion a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Galbraith, Kelly, and Laurenson was appointed to go into the matter, and repurt at a later meeting. The Appeal Council or tho New Zealand Union upheld the action of the Otago Umoil in the case of L. M. Taneey, who was 'disqualified by the Otago Union for six weeks. The Wellington Union forwarded an appeal in the case of ilarshall, _who was disqualified by the Wellington Onion for four playing {Saturdays— u sentence which was subsequently increased 1o two years by the New Zealand Union. It was decided to send on the appeal to tho New Zealand Appeal Council. Mr. UalbriuUi wished lo draw the committee's attention to a statement made by a member of the Wellington Management Committer and which appeared in the press. The speaker moved: "That tho attention of the Wellington Rugby Union be drawn to a statement accredited to Mr. Burns, n member of their committee, wherein he asserted that members of the N'.Z.R.U. executive were in the habit of nttsnding representative matches on free rasses, such being contrary to fact." In sneaking to the motion Mr. Galbraith said that Ms - . Burns had gone out of his way to make an unwarrantable atlack on tho New Zealand Union. No member of the Management Committee had received a frep pass for any match. Other members, including Mr. AVallburton ntul Mr. Kelly, denied the assertion, and said they had always paid like other spectators. Mt'.'Galbraith stated that he was satisfled that Mr. Burns was wrong. The matter should be brought before the Management Committee of the Wellington Rugby Union.. Mr. Galbraith added that the local union word indebted to the New Zealand Union for the way in which the latter body had assisted thein. 11l the absence of Mr. S. Brown, the Wellington Union made'various mistakes, and Messrs. Brown and G. I''. C. Campbell, and Dr. Newman, also tho N.Z.R.tJ. had come to the rescue and helped the union financially, to keep Die Athletic Park. Mr. Wallbiirton stated that if tho New Zealand Council had been sitting iu any other town free passes would bo issued to members of the committee. The fixing of the date and localo of th& Inter-Island matcli was held over. The Hon. .A. T. Ngata wrote enclosing a communication from two Native chiefs, and stating that the young Maoris wont to Australia in 1903 to play football under "tho Northern Union rules in igijorance -of the conditions imposed upon such •union. When the players returned, it ;was found that- they could not play Rugby*. The players now regretted having gone under the aforesaid union. Had they known then what they had learned since .they would never have dono so. No action was taken by th,e committee. The Rotorua Rugby Union asked if the American- team would be able to play .a ■match with the Arawa tribe. The Maoris >at Rotorua-would bo extremely. glad v to i«e the Americans. The matter is to bo ; considered. Horowhenua, Buller, South Canterbury, land Poverty Bay notified suspensions of tplayers for various offences. The suspensions wore made general. Mr. Dixon moved: —"That tho Welling- ■ ton Rugby Union bo asked for an :itinerary of travel of tho touring team; also for dates of local matches." This ; was carried.

COMING OF THE AMERICANS. The Californian University Rugby footballers leave Sydney to-morrow and arrive here on Wednesday next. Whilst in Sydney they created a very good impression, and Mr. Meredith, manager of the New Zealand representative team, states that one could not wish to meet a finer lot of young l'ellows, and both on and ofr the field they conducted themselves like true sportsmen and gentlemen. The team is to play five matches in -New Zealand, and in order that they may see and have experience of the best Rugby, the New Zealand Union has arranged that they shall play against representative provincial teams instead of university fifteens. The list of matches is as follows:—Saturday, July 10, Wellington; Wednesday, 20th, Otago; Saturday, 2;ird, Canterbury; and probably, a match against Wanganui on 26th, Tuesday. Tlio last match of their tour will 1)0 against Auckland, on the 30th instant.

LEFT OUT IN TIIE COLD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Palmerston, July 7. The Manawatu footballers are much concerned at the decision of the NewZealand Union not to givo them a match with the Californian University team, and also with tlio decision of the Wellington Rugby Union not to play them this season., It is understood that the Californian match with Wanganui on Tuesday, July 2G, is conditional upon a holiday being declared that day, but the team could nlay here on an ordinary Wednesday halt-holiday, and then continue the journey to Auckland or Rotorua, reaching there at the same time as if it left Wanganui on Tuesday. Also tlio Wellington team could come hero any Saturday and play and ifeturn the same day. Football is doing well this season in Manawatu, and footballers are much disappointed that they are not being shown more consideration by the Wellington or New Zealand authorities.
