Iu the House yesterday, Mr. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, moved: "That there be laid before the House all tha correspondence that has passed between members of the Government and persons either in this Dominion or resident in other countries •with referenco to tha Bickerton Fund." Mr. Massey said that a Mr. Aplin, a resident of Queensland, had informed him that he would donate J2IOOO towards the fund if a similar amount were voted by the New Zealand Parliament or raised in New Zealand. The Hon. G. i'owlds said that he had had quite a lot of correspondence on the subject. As far as he could understand, the gentleman in Queensland had a claim of some thousands against the Government for allowed wrongful arrest. Mr. Massey: That has nothing to do with it. Mr. Fowld.s: Yes, it has, for he wants hip proposed donation to be deducted from the moneys of that claim. Mr. Massey said he knew nothing about the alleged claim. It would do no harm if tho information wero furnished. The motion was agreed to. -
