Mr. A. S. Mitchell, of Wellington, who is engineer for the new meat freezing works at Tokoniaru Bay (East Coast), has accepted tho tender of Messrs Donald Sl'Lean and Co. for the construction of a wharf in connection with those works. 'Hie work, which consists of a 1150 ft. approach and wharf, has boon designed wit.li > a view to stability, oil account of its exposed situation. Holes are to bo bored into (lie solid rock to a depth of six tect, and ironlmrk piles arc to bo driven in with a heavy rani. The carps and beams arc to bo of iranbai'k,. and tho decking, wales, and braces of totara. The work is to lx' carried out under the superintendence of llr. W. C. Rhodes, who superintended the erection of the Kaikoura Wharf for the same firm of builders. The wharf, which is to be completed in January, will cost <£2.500. Messrs. D. M'Lcan and Co. are also engaged at present 011 the erection of a big deep-sea wharf at Whangarei, for tile Government, which is to cost .ClS.liOO. This -wharf will bo able to accommodate tho largest of tho Union Steam Ship Compa-uy's steamers.
