AN INVALID'S DEATH
CLEANING CLOTHES WITH I'ETROL. By Telefrraph-Press Association-Copy right. London, July 3. Tho Hon. Maurice Gifford, who was undergoing a rest cure at Hoddlesdon, Lancashire, was discovered rushing about his garden, a mass of flames. Ueforo ho died he said ho had been cleaning his clothes with petrol, when they caught firo from a lighted cigarette. At tho inquest a doctor said Mr. Gifford had suffered from acuto nervous prostration. Tho jury returned a verdict of accidental death. [The Hon. Maurice Gifford, C.M.G., was born in 185!), and was tho iourth son of thu second Baron Gifford. After some sorvico in the mercantile marine ho served as a scout, etc., in various African campaigns, anil in the Matabele rel>ellion raised and commanded two troops known as "Gilford's Horse." He lost an arm in tho campaign, and at its closo received his C.M.G. He took part in tho Telief of Mai'ekipg during the South African War.]
