The annual social of tho Palmerston Guards was held at the Mounted Riiles' orderly room last night, when theru was a largo attendance n[ lh.-. voips, other companies also being well'. represented. Toasts appropriate lo tho occasion won honoured,-, and a progrnmmo of musical items was rendered. Vital statistics for the town of Palmerston for the month of June are as follow:—Births, 3G; marriages, 13; deaths, iS. Whilst the midday train from Napier was passing through the Manawatu Gorge yesterday several bounders rolled down the hill on to it, and one of them through a window, narrowly missing a passenger. The stou<) weighed several pounds, and would have done serious injury had it struck anyone. At the annual "social" of the senira members of St. Andrew's Bible Class, Miss Martin and Mr. A. V. Burnard, who are shortly to be married, were presented with a case of silver spoons as a mark of esteem.
