GOLF.

MATCH AT MANAWATU. (By Telegraph.—Bpeclal Correspondent.) Palmerston, July 3. Contrary to expectations,. Saturday proved to be a splendid golfing clay. There was no rain, and the links were in capital order for play. It was, however, disappointing that, after the arrangements had been made so long ago, only five Wellington players made an appearance, but allowances must be made for tho distance from homo, and the fact that several of their prominent players are now at Ilotorua. They secured an easy victory, winuing four out of tho five matches. W. Eoid was in very good form, doing 81—the best round so far for tho now links. Many golfers wore looking forward to seeing tho champion, A. Duncan, and tho ex-captain, J. B. M'Ewan, again on tho links, but urgent business prevented their coming at the last moment. The following aro the results:— W. Reid beat A. Barraud. Clark lost to 'A. Strang. Kirkby beat H. G. Moore. George beat D. G. Moore. M'Shano beat M. L. Young.

HUTT CLUB. Tho mixed foursome played by members of the Hutt Club on Saturday resulted in a win for Mr. and Miss Climio. The following were the best cards handed in:—C'limie and Miss Climio, i down; Allan and Miss Foster, 5 down; Murphy and Mrs. Murphy, 5 down; G. H. Calender and Miss liuddick, 6 down; J. 11. Callcnder and Miss Forbes, 6 down.
