REMARKS BY Mil.' MASSE*. 1 the manner in which Lord Plunket carried - out his duties as Governor was made by Mr. Massey (Leader of the Opposition) in the course of his . remarks on the Ad-dress-in-Reply yesterday. He said that during his term of office Lord Plunket had noted up to the very highest principles of the British Constitution, and represented the Sovereign in a way that was satisfactory to the great bulk of the people of this country, as it must have been to the authorities at Homo. Mr. Massey went on to say that some Governors had been more popular than others,- but he could not remember one to whom objection could be taken. But he would like to see the appointment of Governors placed abovo party.. He would like to see Governors appointed for a better reason than that they had been useful to any party at Home. Referring to the new Governor, Mr. Massoy said that he was confident that Lord Islington's relations would be of the most cordial and friendly character. (Applause.)
