SHIELD MATCHES, July 9 was set down for tho challenge match Poverty Bay versus Wellington, but as tile Poverty Buy Association have cancelled their engagement", t~o above date has been submitted to Horowhenua. A reply should be received shortly. To-morrow's championship games at Day's Bay should be exciting and fast. The second round commences to-morrow, and Victoria College, now leading for the oup, will try'conclusions'with United, last year's cupholders, on No. 1 ground Day's Bay. Karori, who are second for cup honours, will play against Y.M.C.A. on No. 3 ground. This game should prove interesting also. The other senior game, Wellington versus Wesley, will be on No. 2 ground Day's Bay. MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. Very heavy rain on Wednesday morning made the grounds at Palmerston anything but favourable for hockey in the afternoon, ami the' exposition of tho game was consequently not very brilliant. All tho ladies' matches were postponed. Post Office and Phoenix had a pretty stiff battle, the match ending in a draw", two goals each. , Old Boys A went to Feilding, and easily defeated the. local team by six goals to niil. Palmerston A and B teams played on the Show Grounds, the latter proving too good for the A's by six goals to ono. In the junior division High School A defeated their B team by five to nil, and Campbell Street and Technical School played a draw, each scoring four goals.
