THE REVENUE.

"A VERY CONSIDERABLE INCREASE." STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER. A statement was made in the Hons* last night by the Prime Minister with reference to the revenue of the country for the three months ended June 30, together with a comparison with the three months for the corresponding portion of last year.

"I am very glad to be able to tell hon. members," continued Six Joseph, "that there has been a very considerable 'increase in the revenue for the three months in question this year."

Sir Joseph then quoted the following figures

Customs 45,G00 — Stamps 40,381 — Post and Telegraph ... 9,001 — Laud and Income Tax 8,701 — Beer duty — 425 Railways 31,831 — Registration and other fees — 1,891 Marine — 507 Miscellaneous — 5,397 Territorial 4,261 — Totals £139,934 £6,218 "In addition," Sir Joseph continued, "it will be seen that the Customs are beginning to look up. They certainly show very fairly that the activity of the external trade is moving in the right direction."
