LAWN TENNIS.
CANTERBURY MAY SECEDE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! Christchurch, June 29. Tho Canterbury Tennis Association tonight discussed a motion that the meeting of the Now Zealand Association bo held on July 7, and considerable objection was expressed regarding tho proposed alterations of Rule 18. During the discussion it was suggested that the opinion of the affiliated clubs be taken on the question of the association seceding in the event of tho alterations being agreed to. It was ultimately agreed to wait and see if the alterations were agreed to, and the delegates were instructed to vote against them. A circular sent out by a sub-committc© of the association on the subject was approved. It contained the following statement:—"The Canterbury Association is not prepared to submit to parting with the right to have a direct voice in the decision of any matters which it considers of general importance to tennis players throughout tho Dominion, and to be practically reduced to the status of a mere electoral machine, and, if this alteration in Rule 18 is carried, will probably at once secede from tho New Zealand Association."
