NEW CHURCHES.

PROPOSED ANGLICAN FUND. necessity for building new churches and adding to churches whoso accommodation has become inadequate places horn time to time a heavy strain upon poorer parishes and parochial districts, snd the suggestion 1 has been made, by leading members of the Church of England in this diocese, that a general fund should be inaugurated which would ease the burden upon particular parishes from this cause. In tho Methodist Church there is a loan and building fund, and when it is desired to erect a new church in any district, tho committee which administers this fund tan'lend, subject to certain conditions, a proportion of tho money required free of interest for a term of years fixed by iho committee.. The Presbyterian Church is even better off with an endowment iund, from which actual monetary grants .are made for purposes of "church extension." A. definite proposal is now being made lhat" a similar fund should be established tor the Anglican Church in tho "Wellington .diocese. The Rev. C. W. Dent (Eltham) has given notice that he will movo tho following motion at tho meeting of tho Synod, which opens on Tuesday next:— (1) "That a fund be established from ivhich loans may be grauted to parishes >r parochial districts for building purposes at 5 per cent.—2i per cent, being sinking fund, and 2\ per cent, interest on tho loan. (2) "That tho parishes or parochial ■districts bo assessed to form tho nucleus of such fund. (3) "That such assessment be payable to the Standing Committee by March 31, 1911. (■i) "That the assessment shall bo as follows :-St. Paul's (Wellington), St. Peter's (Wellington), St. Mark's (Weilington), Petone, Palmerston North, and Wanganui (Christ Church), .£lO each, and all other parishes or parochial districts £o each. (5) "That subscriptions for the fund ibe invited."
