SALVATION ARMY.
COMING CONFERENCE AT MELBOUENE. Brigadier Bray, head of the social work of the Salvation Array in New Zealand, has just returned from a visit to the Boys Home at Elthain. "There are 40 boys in the home now," said, the brigadier, "and a fine lot they are.' Some of them wero pretty poor in condition when they came there, but the healthy life, regular hours, and good food has worked marvels. I tell jou what it is—the Eltliam Home for Boys is one of the l>est wo have in Australasia. Lord Plunket visited thn place before he left, and was delighted with the way tho home is conducted, and with the bright, vigorous, hopeful look of the inmates. Schooling is. what they are being given now. Most bt them are of the school age, and their education must not suffer, but many of them are assisting in the work of laying out the grounds with live hedges and gardens, and in about five jfars the place will bo a picture. "I have just paid a visit to the Prison Gato Home at Aldington (Christchurch), where we have made accommodation for 16' more inmates, which will bring the accommodation up to 50. We have not decided to do anything yet with tho Island Bay property—there will probably be developments alter the conference in Melbourne. "I leave for Melbourne to-morrow—a fortuight ahead of the rest. The North Island will be represented by Colonel Knight, Briga/liers Holdover, Glover, and myself, and Staff-Captain Orams. The South Island will be represented by Brigadier' Albiston, Staff-Captain Colvin, and Major Kirk. The conference, which commences on July 21, will last for a week."
