GOVERNMENT HOUSE
LORD ISLINGTON'S WISHES. In order to give effect to tho wishes of the Governor certain small alterations affecting matters of taste are to be made in the new Government Uouse, but it is not anticipated that any additional expense will be involved, or that the completion of the building will be in any degree delayed. It. is hoped that the residence will be quite ready for occupation in about a month's time, and his Excellency will then, no doubt, move in without delay. Suggested rumours have been current as to the alterations desired by his Excellency. For instance, a Press Association telegram states, on the authority , of "a gentleman at present in Christchnrch, that Lord Islington condemned tho arrangement of the rooms, and in consequence oxlonsivo alterations will bo pnt in hand, so that the residence is unlikely lo be occupied for some months to conie. The facts, as shown above, are very different from this statement.
