A, Vile, v;ho regretted that children should be induced to lcav« school, and that fifth standard boys should bo sought to do Government work. Ho thought that the GorVrument, which demanded a sixth standard certificate from a boy entering the Civil Service, should set a better example than to iaka hoys away from school before they pa;* the eisth standard. Mr. Hogg said that the advertisement evidently referred to boys who had passed the lifth standard. Mr. Vile pointed out subsequently to a. Dominion reporter that that could not be. for a boy who had passed the fifth standard would in the middle ot the year be a sixth standard boy, and the advertisement referred to fifth standard boys. the chairman said that the early withdrawal of pupils from tho Stato schools should be discouraged. _ The attention of the board having been drawn to the advertisement, tho matter was allowed to drop.
