ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.
. .. , - > . An interesting competition in First Aid and Stretcher Drill was held last night among the divisions of tho St. John Ambulance Brigade in Wellington and ketone. The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) was in the chair, and Dr. Henry (District Chief Surgeon' 6f" the'brigade m Wellington) was judge. The competition was organised-'by.-the District Chief Superintendent, Mr. H. -H: Seed. Six teams of four bearers faced the judge, two from Petone, two from Tramways, one each from Railway No. 1, and. the Wellington divisions. The auxiliary hall in the, Y.AI.C.A. Buildings, where the competition was held, was full 01 members of the brigade and their friends. The team from the Wellington division proved the winners. Nos. 1 and 2 teams from Petone came'second and third, respectively.:. The "case" to be treated was as follows:—A man was found lying on tho floor suffering from "compound fracture of right forearm near the wrist with severed/, artery and fractured lower jaw, right'side. The patient, after being treated, was to be .placed on, a stretcher and carried to o bed, and placed on the bed. from the stretcher. The "case" was chosen froni a list of three supposed cases, and th« teams were practising these cases foi •more than a month prior to the compel tion. Teams supplied their own patient bandages, splints, and stretcher, and on« team only worked at a time. ' Order'oi precedence was arranged by ballot. A( the conclusion the Mayor presented th< members of the winning team with silvei medals. Votes of thanks were passec with acclamation to the Mayor and Dr Henry. • . ,
