The Senate of tho National University of Ireland has decided that Irish ;shall be a compulsory subject for matriculation after 1913. Tho decision is due. to pressure by the Sinn Fein upon the county councils, which control the rates out of which scholarships are provided to the value of ,£60,000 annually.
