SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
BARRY WILL DO HIS UTMOST. By Tele{rrapU—Press Association—Copyright.. (Rec. June 26,'5.5 p.m.) London, Juno 25. Barry, in a message to his supporters before embarking for South Africa, stated: — "You can depend on my goijig straight. I am going to do my utmost to win. I should h.ivo preferred rowing under Thames conditions, but I nm hopeful of meeting Arust later at Putney or Morllako." THAMES AND AUSTRALIAN RULES. Under the Thames conditions a sculler is allowed to receive directions from a man on a fullowini; steamer as to the course he should steer. Jn the old rules of the chnmpiuuship there is no _ such provision, This is probably the point on which Arnst has been insistent. In the Australian championship boat laws Urn most important rule is No. C, as follows:—"A sculler's proper course is such a course as will enable him to reach the winning post in the shortest possiblo time, provided that l.e allows ample water fur the other competitor to steer his proper course on the sidn on which such competitor started when such competitor is in a position to enforce his risrht to such water. Any sculler failing to keep his proper course duos so at his peril in the event, of a foul occurring."
