His Excellency the Governor will hold a levee in the Legislative Council Chambers at 6 p.m. to-morrow. Madamo Carreno, accompanied by her husband, Signor Arturo Tagliapietra, and Mr. Benno Scherek, arrived yesterday morning from Dunedin, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. It is understood that his Excellency the Governor, who has been staying at the Wellington Club since his arrival, will take up his residence at Molesworth Street to-morrow. The callers' book is now placed in the entrance of the temporary vice-regal residence. Mr. A. L. Herdmau, M.P., returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit to Lnvercargill. • Mr. W. J. Hueston, who has held for the la-st 15 years a responsible position with Messrs. Ross and Glendining, has been appointed manager of the Wellington branch of Messrs. Macky, Logan, Caldwoll, and Co., in succession to tho lato Mr. A. H. F. Thompson. Mr. Hueston, who has lived in Wellington for 21 years, is chairman of the Wellington Bowling Centre, and is an ex-president of the Victoria Bowling Club, of which he was for 13 yoara secretary. Ho is also secretary of the Wellington Choral Society, and has for several years held official positions in tho Wellington Commercial Travellers' Club. - Sir E. W. Inglis, chairman of the London Stock Exchange, whose name is included in the list of birthday honours, is a brother of the Rev. G. B. Inglis, Presbyterian Minister at Ashburton. Mr. Inglis thinks that tho honour was probably conferred on account of his brother's- active interest in volunteering matters in the metropolis.— Press Association. Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., is to be nominated by the Johnsonville School Committee for a further term as member of the Wellington Education Board. The announcement that Mr. M'Cabo will be tho guest of Professor Laby during ' his stay in Wellington is incorrect. No arrangement, we understand, has yet been made in this respoct. Our Masterton correspondent states that at a recent parade of the Masterton Rifles, Captain W. C. L. Robinson, who is resigning his position, was presented with an enlarged photograph of the. corps, and Sergeant-Major M'Crystall, who was recently married, 'with a handsome oak tray. Mr. David Strickland was the recipient of a dinner service on Friday evening from his fellow-workers in tho maintenance department of the Gas Company. Mr. A. Thomas, foreman of the department, mado tho presentation. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, left Obristchuieh for Grcyraonth on Saturday, to deal with the typographical dispute at the Grey. Colonel Chaytor was a passenger from the south by the Maori yesterday morning. Mr. C. S. Nixon, Collector of Customs, arrived back in Wellington on Saturday after a visit of inspection to the South Island. I Mr. D. Crowe, who has just relinquished a seven-years' term as Mayor of Pahiatua, has been asked to stand for tie Pahiatua seat.at the next general election as an Independent Liberal. Mr. Crewe has been a resident for thirty years in Pahiatua, and during that time ho has boon intimately connected with town board and municipal government. Ho is at present a member of the Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board, representing thq Ekotahnna and Pahiatua boroughs. Mr. Crowe has not yet mado his decision as to whether he will or will not contest the scat.
