A J.l>. AND THE POLICE. What must be regarded as a very serious matter is at present tho attention of the Justice Department. It is reported that, some timo ago, a resident of Christchurch, who holds a'conimission of tho peace, was arrested for drunkenness. As he did not wish it to become known that he had been so charged ho referred tho matter to a member of Parliament, who (it is further alleged) was successful in inducing tlie police authorities to have the. name altered on tho charge-sheet. Recently, however, tho 'facts came within tho knowledge of another Parliamentary representative, who promptly brought tho matter under the notice of the Justice | Department. When a Dominion reporter inquired of the Hon.
