Mr. C. Holdsworth, general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, was .among the passengers who left for Sydney last night by the Moana.
The employees of the Wellington Harbour Board met last evening to make a presentation to Mr. D. Sinclair, who is retiring from the service of the board' after ten years' service, to begin business for himself. Mr. A. V. Hale-Munro made the presentation— a piece of plate and a pipe. In making the presentation, Mr. . Munro. referred to tho recipient in complimentary terms, and wished him success in his new sphere.
Private advices state that Mr. Louis Becke, the novelist, has arrived back in Sydney from the Islands. He is not enjoying the best of health.
Mr. J. Domcnech, of Wellington, who accompanied Mr. E. Short to the Argentine, arrived at his native town, Garona, in Spain, on Monday last. Ho expects to return to Wellington in about two months' time. i
Mr. G. Reginald Bacchus,' who wrote the libretto of that bright musical comedy, "The Rose of Riviera," produced here by the George Stephenson Musical Comedy Company about five years ago, is at present residing at Manakau, on tho Manawatu liue, owing to his mother's ill-health. He is likely to rosido in New Zealand for a couple of years.
Mr. E. M.' Langley, of the Auckland telegraph office, who has been stationed in Auctdand for the last six years, has been transferred to Hastings.
Mr. Duncan Rutherford, who was present at the Hawke's Bay and Napier Park' races during the month, returned, to Christchurch by the Maori last night.
Captain .Robert Stewart, of Bluff, was a passenger for Sydney by - the Moana, which sailed yesterday evening.
. Mr. A. Longmore, of Longraore and Co., .Wellington, and Mr. A. K. Hadfield, of -Ford and Hadfield, Christchurch, arrived from Auckland last evening, after having made a holiday trip to the South Sea Islands.
Mr. Joseph M'Cabe, the eminent scientist and author, is expected to arfivo in Wellington by the Auckland mail train on Friday, July 1. He will be the guest of Professor Laby, of Victoria College.
Mr. John Sturrock, the newlyappointed engineer to the borough of Napier, Tviil take up his duties about the first week in August.
