Mr. H: M. Campbell, of Poukawa, has purchased tho steeplechaser Lingerer for 75 guineas.

Bully, winner of tho Great Northern Hurdles of 1909, lias not raced for a considerable time, but he is now a regular attendant ou the tracks at Ellerslie. ,:

A recent addition to W. Davios's Trentham team is a two-year-old gelding by Field Battery from Trix.

R. "Hatch-, who was riding at tho Ashburton meeting during the. week, returns to Wellington by the Mararoa this morning. :

On Wednesday last a box was en. gaged at Riccarton for Audax, for the National .meeting. .

On tho two daj's of. the Napier 1 Park Racing Club's meeting only one first favourite succeeded in winning, viz., Aotea on tho first day.

While competing 1 in the Napier Steeplechase, Kiatcre sustained a slight injury, a small artery in one of his hind legs being cut. ' Ho- was bleeding freely on his return to tho paddock, but at latest advice was doing satisfactorily.

It was anticipated that the Socialists would give trouble at the Longchanips races on May 1, and great preparations were made by the police. However, as everything. passed off quietly, people started to look round for tho reason, and the following explanation is given by,tho Paris.correspondent of a London paper:—"lt is not generally known that the much-feared llay Day riots in Paris, and particularly at Longchamps, tho other Sunday, were avoided by a well-known sportsman,' who had a couplo of thousand francs distributed privately among the Socialist ringleaders, with a few extra special tips for the day's racing! The consequence was that all tbeso men hied themselves to Longchanips to back tho 'winners' given to them, and a disturbance* was thus avoided." i

Winning owners at tho Napier Park Racing Club's meeting were: Messrs. T. Carson, £ISS; W. Uare, £150; J. R. M'Donald, £115; F. Preston, £110; W. 11. Rooney, £100; W. Holmes, £95; J. Armstrong, £85; R. J. Stanficld, £75; J. Hennah, £75; J. T. and G. H. Miller, £G5; T. lievau, jiui., £65; W. Telford, £65; Hon. 'J. D. Ormond; £35; Messrs. M'Lennan Bros., £25; H. Jackson, £35; D. Buick, £15; Sir Willian Russell, £15; Messrs. F. j. Bassett-, £10; W. C. Vincent, £10; P. Scullion, £10; W. Roberts, £10; D. Macnamara, £10; W. Davis, £10; Messrs. Limmer and M'Eav, £5; Messrs. G. C. Hamilton, £5; T. F. Nolan," £5; G. P. Donnelly, £5.

There are at the present time a fair number of.-New Zealand ponies in and around Sydney, and a couple of these were put in < commission at Ascot on June 15. Lady Paul, who carried the confidence of her connections in the Flying Handicap, was last to leave the barrier, but joined Alberto at the head of the field in little more than a furlong. She was, however, unable to sustain the effort, and was beaten out of a place, while Alberto won by n short neck from the unlucky Ilippona. Speedy Meg, another daughter of St. Paul, was a strong order for the 14.1 Novice Handicap, and ran clean over her field in the last furlong, winning by a length .and a half from Wisdom.

It would be impossible to get together a belter class of jumpers in New Zealand, than those entered for 11)0 Grand National events at lticcarton. The feature of the entry is tho presonce of Bribery's name among the list for the Steeplechase, and should the champion 'chasor of Australia bo brought across to compete, it will add an immense amount of interest to the event. The fact that Bribery's stablemate, Ataahua, has been entered for tho Hurdles makes it appear as if D. J. Price is quite prepared to bring the pair across if tho weights suit. Up till the present. Ataahua has only won hack hurdle races, and the fact that iie is at-the toj).o£ the weights-in tho

big events in Victoria has probably caused his trainer to enter him in New Zealand. Aberdeen, who ran third in tho last Melbourne Cup. has been retired to tho stud. Kremlin is said to bo coming back to form at Auckland, and there appears, to bo a chance ol' his winning a l-aco later on. The hurdler Aorangi is still located at Awapuni, where be is being treated to a spell. Toangti and Waikaraka, who have been spelling, are to resume work under T. Wilson's care next week. T. Pritchard went from Napier to Carterton yesterday, in order to school iull Rate. Pritchard is to ride Tho Officer gelding in his races this tea. son. S. Reid and W. Young left Napier for Gisborne last night, in order to be present at the Gisborne Racing Club's ivinter meeting. Tawhaki was heavily backed for the Allenton Handicap, at tlie Ashburton meeting yesterday, but the full-bro-tlier to Armlet faded to gain a place. Though it was understood that Paisano would not be 'started in any hurdle race prior to the Grand National, it b now stated that, the Strowan gelding may be among the competitors in.the hurdle race on tho second day of the Gisborne meeting. If lie ■is started, • Young will have the mount. J. Hercock has ridden the winners of fivo steeplechases during tho past fortnight, a rather good ' record, considering the limited number of cross country, events in the Dominion. Coronoform, who won the Netherby Hack Handicap at Asliburton yester-' day, is by Multiform from Helen Fau-< cit, and therefore a half-brother to tho disappointing Ristori. The owner of Ambrosian was not present at tho Napier Park meeting to see the St. Ambrose filly win. Ambrosian has now developed into- a fine stamp of a thoroughbred, and tho half-sister to Danube should be equalto winning a respectable handicap next' season. V.R.C. MEETINC. By Telegraph—Press Association—Cqpyrisht. Melbourne, June 24. The declaration of the first forfeit's left 24 in the Grand National Hurdle : Race, and 32 in the Grand National Steeplechase.' The malcontents in tho hurdles included Bribery and -in thesteeples Ataahua. FIXTURES. July 7,and B.—Gisborne E.C. Winter.- - July IC, 20. and 23.-Wellington E.C. Winter. August 0, 11, and 13.-C.J.C.
