Wedding at 'Manaia. • At St". Cuthbert's Church, Manaia, Taranaki, on Wednesday, Mr, Robert W. Carpenter, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Carpenter, of Masterton, and a member of the literary staff of the Auckland "Star," was married to Miss Amelia Emily Ethel Butterfleld, youngest daughter of Mrs. C.. Butterfleld, pf Dunetlin, the Eev. Mr. Stent officiating. The bride, who was given away by-her brother, Mr. JV Butterfleld, wore a charming princess robe _of ivory satin, wifh a long train, and she carried a beautiful shower liouquet. She was attended by four bridesmaids, Misses Lilian M'Kerizie, Aljna Carpenter (sister of the bridegroom), Gassie M'Kcnzie. and _ Edith Hastie, the .last two being little girls, in cream, silk empire frocks, carrying shepherd's crooks, instead of bouquets. Mr. Norman Barker, of Taihape, was best man. After the ceremony Mrs. G. D. M'Kemsie, sister of the bride, and her husband, entertained a large number of guests at a reception in the Manaia Town Hall. • Mrs. M'Eenzic wore a princess gown of pale blue silk voile, with cream oriental trimmings, and hat to match. Mrs; Butterfleld, mother of the bride, wore a black silk gown, with Maltese scarf and a black bonnet, trimmed with heliotrope. Later on, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Carpenter left for Auckland, Mrs. Carpenter wearing a cream serge costume with silver fox furs, and gold and cream hat. / Girls' Hockey. A-.great deal of interest is being tyfcien in: the match between Wairarapa and "Wellington girls' hockey teams, which is to be held to-morrow afternoon at Day's' Bay. Mr. Wilford, the Mayor, will be present. The 1.15 boat will carry visitors to this -match, which will bo played on ,No.. 3 ground, and after its conclusion a match between Napier' ana Wellington men will be played. In the evening a dance will be- given by the Wellington Ladies' Hockey Association in the New Century Hall, for the "Wairarapa'visitors, when the members of the .Napier team will .also be.,present.....This? dance is sure to be' most "enjoyable," and since the afternoon's' play will be so strenuous, it is -just as -well that the evening should necessarily be ' a . short 6 ; ne. Dispensing for Women, Dispensing is such a suitable occupation for women that it is surprising more girls do not qualify for it.' Perhaps thesuceess of a lady from Lawrence will induco others to follow' her example. At last . night's meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Beard two applications were received for tho position of lady dispenser at-the hospital at <£125 per year. Tho applicants were Miss Williamson, of Hawera; and Miss Taylor, of Lawrence, After a. brief discussion it was decided ,to appoint Miss Taylor to the position. A "Parcel" Afternoon. The Mission to Seamen has many friends, and a large number' of them were at the Institute yesterday afternoon, when the committee and missionergave a "parcel tea. 1 " The idea was to collect contributions to the "Comet Bazaar" thai is to be held in August. The mission knew its friends. Many and charming were the gifts received. Among them were some very acceptable and handsome contributions from sailors now in port, who showed their sympathy with the work of the mission in this way. Mrs. W. R. Williams acted as hostess on behalf of- the committee, standing at the door, where a space had been screeitcd off and furnished. The hail looked very nice and cheerful, with •its many little tables set about, and decorated each with its copper vase filled with spring flowers or glowing cactus blooms. A very good programme had been arranged by Miss Simpson, and during the afternoon songs were sung by Misses Anderson and Veitch and Mr. Tresize, recitations given by Miss Coote and Miss Reid, and. Miss Simpson played. The whole of.the Institute was thrown open to the guests, most of whom made a tour of inspection of .the various rooms and the beautiful little chapel. Mr. Moore always has interesting things to tell about his many travelled friends, and yesterday, in addition to his story of tho man who had sworn off liquor for many years, and now v sent a donation of «£B, !£7 for the Mueller Orphanage and £1 for tho Seamen's a donation that made Mr. Moore desire still more gifts from other friends, lie had a letter to read from the parents of a sailor boy who came out to New Zealand on his first voyage some months ago. His parents in England .wrote* a most grateful letter of thanks to Mr. Moore and all connected with the mission, showing from what they said that their son must havo expressed some appreciation of the kindness with which'he had been treated during his stay in port. Mr. Moore receiving many such letters, and that is why he begs with such unflagging energy and enthusiasm for help in his work.. Another "parcel tea" is to be given on July 21, but this time it will be a "parcel evening," so that those who cannot attend in the afternoon may do so then. " ... Among the many guests present yesterday wore Mrs. Hudson, Mrs. Rutherford,. Mrs. TtMisend, Mrs. Hooper, Mi\s. Whyte, Mrs. Tait, Mrs. Paul, Miss Greenwood, Mrs. Moore, Miss Powles, Mrs. West, and Mrs.'Lindsay.

Tho marriage of Miss Amy Kathleen 'Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andeison, of "Glenarn." Eketahuna, to Mr. A. B. Pullover, of Wellington, will lake placo at St. Cuthbert's Church, Eketahuna, on July G. Mr. and. Mrs. Harold Abraham, of Levin, are visiting friends in Christchurch. The "Weekly Press" announces tho engagement of Miss Mary. Turnbull, youngei>r. daughter of ' Mr. Robert Turnbull, Wanalia Station, to Mr. Ivan Logan, solicitor, Napier. Mrs. Will Lawson, who recently underwent nu' operation, is now convalescent, and >is staying with her mother, Mrs. A, J. Willis, of Island Bay. Mrs.. Lindsay, from Auckland, is staying at the Royal Oak. A very pleasant little tea was givenyesterday afternoon at the Art Club by Mrs. Wylie for Mrs. Lindsay, from Auckland. Tho annual social of the Public Trust Office will be held on July 27. Miss Corliss, of Tasman Street, and her friend, Miss Tasljer, are at present spending a holiday at Auckland and R-otorua. Lady Beatrice Kerr ■ Clark, wife of Lord Islington's private secretary, is staying at the. Grand Hotel until other arrangements are made. Tho Pioneer Club hits leased new rooms on the first floor of Mr. Hannah's new buildings on Lambton Quay. The largest room is immediately above the shop of Misses Macandrew and Hayes, and behind it are tho other tiro rooms, both of a ■fair size and very well lighted. Tho premises are most convenient and suitable, aiid 'though' they are only 011 the first floor the fact that there is a lift will give satisfaction to many. A very enjoyable "social,".under the auspices of tlio Young Women's Bible Class, was held at tho Kuripuni Methodist Sunday School on Tuesday night, when the, feature of the evening was tlio amusing dialogue "Wanted a General." \ '
