Black. and Gerald Peacocke ' (both of Auckland). ' . The present position of the Knyvctt case is, shortly, that the. Government! has announced that there is no provision at present for granting a new trial of Captain Knyvett, and as it will be necessary lor special legislation ,to bo passed,, meetings aro being held in Wangamii, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Dunediii, and Wellington, in order to secure thg support of the people of the whole of New Zealand as' well as - that of then representatives. "The personal element; our Tepre* sentative was informed, "has entirety faded from tho matter.. The campaign is being continued for the great prm-. ciple of securing the right of appeal for any officer, non-commissioned officer, or man of the Territorial Force, should they ever be plac'cd.in a'"similar, unfortunate position to that occupied by Captain. Knyvett. On the way down from Auckland we received universal promises of support. In many cases peoplo who were through lack of knowledge of the facts opposed to the movement, were very ] easily converted to staunch supporters. All that the committee asks from AYelhngton la that tho public will turn out in fore* to hear the true facts of the case.. The chairman and secretary ot thef committee waited on the Mayor yesterday to ask if lie would preside at the meetin" on Julv 4.
