MIRAMAR AFFAIRS.
INCREASE (J? TRI"U TABES. Ths Miramar Borough Council met last night,, when there were present: tho Jlavor (Mr. J. Brodie), Councillors Muir, Bowie, M'CleUand, Mleod, 8011, and' Richards. Councillor Jluir/ moved: xhat.. the fare on tho Seatoun line bo lcd-> andi on tho Miiamar north line 2d., with coupons for residents, 24 for 25., available over both lines. That a considerable reduction in tho running of cars coino into operation at the beginning of July as uiay bo agreed by the council. The mover, urged that more revenue was required, and this was a proposal to obtain it from those people who did ..not pay rent or rates * in the borough; The motion was duly seconded. Tho Mayor pointed out that if the fares were increased, the number of excursionists would probably be decreased. Tho progress of the borough was largely, due to the tramways, and it might bo well worth while to put up with a loss on the service for a few years. He was agreeablo to small reductions in the running, but would oppose any alteration ot MTjeod estimated that if the . number of passengers remained the same, tho increased charge would mean aCOO more revenue a year. M 1 After some discussion, Councillor jrLeod moved as an amendment to the first part of the motion that a new section be inserted, ending at Mrramar Avenue, and (hot the faro be one penny from the city boundary to Mmunar Avenue, and also one penny- from Miramar Avenue to the terminus, coupons to. bo issued as proposed by Councillor Bell seconded the amend-; . ment, which was agreed to niter some; . ( •discussion. The council also agreed to slightly Teduce the running of care. Councillor Bowie moved: That-it be a recommendation to the Water Supply and Dramase Committee to get a report on' the advis ibility of prodanng our electao power at the proposed station,, and also to consider the . merits of the Diesel or other engines as compared witii suction gas' as regards mnning without constant attention." The motion was ngroed to practically without 'iiseussusii. k . The City Engineer notined that .intended to erect two lamps on the Wot-, ser Bay Hill. ' • , . letter was received from property* owners in regard to the encroieomynt of the sea at the end of the Marine Parade. It waa decided that the en* gineer should meet the owners of pro-perty-in regard to the matter..
