DEATH FROM PHTHISIS. AN EXTRAORDINARY CASE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! Christchurch, Juno 22. At tho inquest on Frank Fox, who died suddenly yesterday, tho medical and otlior evidence was to tho effect that deceased arrived from England four years ago, and was employed at the Tramway Board's office for two years. He lived a strictly careful life, but had a dry, hacking cough, and the fits of coughing sometimes lasted for half an hour. Death was due to the bursting of a blood vessel in tho loft lung, which was diseased, and tho right lung was also extensively diseased. •Replying to the coroner, Dr. Symes stated that tho case was a most extraordinary 0110, in that deceased had consumption and apparently no ono was awaro of the fact. Tho left lung was practically only a shell, and was so bad that it had collapsed entirely whilst the doctor was making the post-mortem. It was astonishing, that a man suffering from consumption should have been employed on a large clerical staff without the fact being detected. , A verdict of death from phthisis was recorded.
