IMPROVING OUR DAIRY HERDS.
GOVERNMENT TO SPEND £1500. Some days ago it was mentioned in The Dominion- that the Government in. tended to secure a number of Jerseycattle in the Old Country. In regard to this matter, the non. T. Mackcnzio (Minister for Agriculture) now states that tho amount involved is .£ISOO, which has been authorised by Cabinet. The aim of the Government is to establish at Kuakura and "Wercroa first-class dairy fiords, on np-to-datn linos. It is hoped (hp continues) to breed profitable stud stock that can be placed within easj reach of the dairy farmer. If possible, some Holsteins will be purchased from America. Mr. Mackenzie adds that the purchases will bo made on behalf of the Government by a practical dairy farmer, who is at present in the Old. Country.
