It was built by subscriptions, aided by "working bees." Tho golf match which was to have been played between the local club and Wellington at Wellington on Saturday, has been declared oil'. In the senior football championship, Hui Mai are in the lead with 10 points, Lovin arc next,' 9 points, Shannon 4, and Kia Toa 1. In junior honours Tainili (Otaki) lead, with Kereru next. The two-year-old son of Mr. Itawiri Hakarana died at his parents' residence, Otaki, on Tuesday. The body has been conveyed to the U-aukawa, where a .tangi is proceeding in conjunction with the tangi over tho lato vVhairiri Nikora. .Miss Gcorgo, sister of Mr. B. Gcorgo, of Manakau, passed away a few clays ago while sading for the Salt Lake City with a number of the Oroua Bridge Natives. The party had reached Honolulu when the death took place. While Mr. J. Edwin was schooling a "youngster" over hurdles at AVaikanae on Tuesday, .he met with a mishap that might easily have resulted in a broken' leg: Tho animal refused to take the obstacle, smashing through and rolling over, and pinning tho rider to the ground. It was some time before the latter was freed, but, fortunately ho escaped with no more serious hurt than a bruised ankle.
CARTERTON. Mr. J. Brown, who last season was first assistant at tho Belvedere eheeso factory, has been, appointed manager of the new factory, which is being erected at Cafrington. While skating at tho local rink recently, two young ladies, Misses Callendcr and Neilscn, sustained a severe fall, and the former also sustained a fracture above tho ankle, and tho latter a severely sprained ankle. The Belvedere School Committee has decided to join tho School Committees' Assodiation.
