Fawcett, President of She National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, was principal spokeswoman at the deputation from the suffrage societies which waited on Mr. Asquith. Lady Jersey acted as spokeswoman for- the rival deputation from the Women's National Anti-Suffrage League. Mr. Asquith, in replying to the arguments of Lady Jersey, said that in her ; references to the dangers in obliterating the existing political distinction between the' sexes Lady Jersey was (preaching to the converted. • The proceedings of the last two years, [Mr. Asquith said, had perhaps strengthened his views on the subject. They were not, however, the views of i majority of his colleagues, and he doubted .whether they • were the views of a majority of the Liberal party. MR.
