STUDENTS' CARNIVAL.
CAPPING DAY FESTIVITIES.
Extra special arrangements are being made by the students of Victoria College to eclipse an Juno 30 all_ previous capping ceremonies in the annals of tbo university colleges. Hitherto, the students have been content to confine their festivities within the four walls of the college, and to entertain the public in the Town Hall or some other suitablo concert room. But on this occasion the>, no doubt- inspired by tho success of tho recent carnival in Christchurch, propose to venture into tho public highways, and niako morry. A monster procession has been arranged, in which 200 students will- join. Tho column will bo a quarter of a mile long, and will bo moro conspicuous for its grotesque integral make-up than for anything else. The students will be garbed m various guises. Tliero is to be a satire on University Reform, and also burlesques of other- public questions. A Jeffries-Johnson fight figures on the programme ; Zulu warriors will gogglo eyes and make fearful passes with spears; a kilted band will head the show, "while certain doughty citizens of good repute will bo honoured with replicas of their worthy solves.
Starting from the college, the procession will march by way of Mount' Street, Ghuzneo Street, Cuba Street, Manners Street, Willis Street, Lambton Quay, Bowen Street, Wellington Terrace' back to the collego again. Two performances—matinee and evening; as it were—will bo given, ilie first between 12 noon- and 5 p.m.; and the second at 5.30 p.m. on July 1, when, torchlights will add to the "display. The whole procession will occupy about two hours.
