FIRES.
DWELLING DESTROYED. (By Tclcgraph.-Special Correspondent:) Fending, Juno 22. An unoccupied house, of six rooms, at Makino, was destroyed by fire last night. No one was on the premises at the time, and the cause of tho fire is unknown. The owner resides at Apiti. TWELVE-ROOMED HOUSE BURNT. (By Tolegraph.-Press Association.) Pahiatua, Juno 22. A twelve-roomed house at Mangatainoka, owned and occupied by AY. J. Upton, was completely destroyed by fire at 4.30 this morning. ■ The only occupants were Mr. and Mrs. Upton," who are an aged couple, and n young girl. Tho last-named woke, found tho room, full of smoke, and gavo the alarm. The origin of the fire is 'a mystery. The insurance on tho house was £150, and on the furniture £25, both in the National Office. The Uptons aro heavy losers.
