The Hon. A. T. Ngata, who visited Gisborno yesterday, is now eh route for 'Wellington.
Mr. B. M. Molineaux, for some years past manager of tho local branch of, tho Bank of New South Wales, is leaving Christchurch to take chargeof the Wellington branch where he was previously manager for a period of ten years, and he leaves shortly for the Empire City.- On the Board of tho M'Lean Institute, the Committee of the Rhodes Convalescent Home, and in other ways, Mr. Molineaux has shown a practical interest in tho affairs of the city. Mr. A. Stcdman, of Napier, succeeds Mr. Molineaux in Christ- ' church.—Press Association.
Mr. A. Estall, formerly a member of D Battery, Wellington Field Artillery, and now in India, is still soldiering. In a letter to a friend in Wellington ho states that he is a sergeant in the 13th Battery, Royal Field Artillery, and will leave shortly for England on furlough.
News by yesterday's mail from Sydney states that Mrs. Harry Plimmer died quite suddenly in the Hotel Mansions, Bayswater Road. Sho was awaiting the arrival of her sister to go to the theatre on the evening of Juno 14, when Mr. Plimmer heard his wife cry out upstairs. Ho rushed up and found her unconscious on the floor. Medical assistance was promptly summoned, hut sho died within the hour. The cause of death, was an acute form of Brigbt's disease, but the deceased had not suffered at all, and the death was a painless one.
Mr. P. Jackson, of tho Bank of New Zealand, Stratford, who has been on holiday leave in Australia for the past six weeks, returned by the Ulimaroa yesterday, and will go on to Stratford this morning,
The Revs. F. Baumber, V. W. Fairclough, and J. J. Lewis," who have been attending tho Methodist Conference in Adelaide, returned from Australia by tho TJlimaroa yesterday.
Mr. James Ewen, son of the Rev. Keith Ewen, who has been away from Wellington for some time, returned from Sydney by the TJlimaroa' yesterday.
Passengers from the south by tho Maori yesterday included Mr. C. Holdsworth, general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, Prof. Scott, of Canterbury College, and Dr. Cockayne, Government Botauist.
Mr. Harry Henderson, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, arrived back from a trip to Sydney by tho TJlimaroa yesterday.
Mr. G. A. Buttle, chairman of tho Auckland Stock Exchange, is a visitor to Wellington.
Tho death occurred yesterday of Mr. John Ludford, printer, who was wellknown in several newspaper offices in Now Zealand beforo he joined tho staff of tho Government Printing Office. Deceased, who was over 80 years of ago, leaves a grown-up family.
At a meeting of the Selection Committee of the Roslyn Presbyterian Church last night it was decided to rel- - the congregation to give a call to tho Rev. W. Gray Dixon, of Auckland. —Press Association.
Dr. Cockayne, from Christchnrch, is staying at the Occidental Hotel.
The death occurred in Wellington yesterday of Mr. John Stratford, an old Wellington resident. For many years the late Jlr. Stratford was in business as a baker in Clyde Quay, retiring about two years ago. Deceased was 55 years of age.
At a meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association on Tuesday evening tlio chairman (Mr. F. D. Kestcveh) referred to the death of Mr. W. Coffey, who was the association's delegato to the New Zealand Rowing Association. He said that the association, and sport generally, had lost a very valuable officer, whoso place wo.uld bo difficult to fill. A resolution expressing regret was carried, members standing.—Press Association. Our Otaki correspondent states:— The funeral of the late Mr. James Wilson, who died here this week, is to take placo at Now Plymouth. Deceased was 41 years of age, and, for some time, was connected with the firm of Messrs. Kirk 'and Atkinson, solici.tors, of Wellington. More recently he joined the staff of Messrs. Kirk and Stevens.
