FOUR BUILDINGS BURNT AT V/AIROA. (By Telegraph.—Pres3 Association.) Wairoa, Juno 21. . A fire, which occured at midnight, totally destroyed two shops, owned by Powdrell and occupied by Lambert, tailor, and Carr, watchmaker, and an office occupied by Green, solicitor; also a shop and billiard-room, owned by Corkill and occupied by Oscar Jonson. Powdrell's buildings were insured for £350 in the South-British and Corkill's for £350 in' the Royal. A building owned by Powdroll and occupied by Wilkins, engineer, was saved with difficulty. Tho stock, insured for £75 in the State office, was damaged by removal and water. Green and Carr saved mo=t of their effects. Green was insured for £135 in tho London and Lancashire office. Carr was uninsured. Jonson had a policy of £100 on tho billiard-tablo in the London and Liverpool and Globe. His stock was uninsured, and tho loss is estimated at £150. Lambert bad £100 on his stock in the South British, but estimates his loss at £150. FORTY-ROOMED HOUSE BURNT. Tirnaru, June 21. Tho homestead at Holme Station, Pareora, ■ Air. A. S. Elworthy's residence, was destroyed by firo about 2 o'clock this morning. The house con- : 'tained; about 40 rooms,..and.very, littlo 'furniture was saved. The- fire- originated in the kitchen, and is supposed ■havo been caused by. a defective ■cL_mey. "The flames-had a-strong hold ivher. discovered, and spread so rapidly that the children bad to bo taken out in their night clothes. The building was insured for £3700, and the contents for £2500 in the Alliance office. The Reichel Automatic Fire Alarm notifies fire brigade station within 20 seconds of outbreak of fire.
