Mr. Bertram Mackennal, A.R.A., tho well-known Australian sculptor, has been commissioned to ; design and model the Coronation medal, and the coinage for tho new reign. Mr. Mackennal is the first overseas Briton to be called upon to design the British coinage. [Mr. Bertram Mackennal was born at Melbourne in 1863, and is the son of Mr. J. S. Mackennal, an Australian sculptor. He designed the war memorial- at Islington (London), the pediment for tho new Government Buildings at Westminster,' and has done statues of Queen Victoria for Lidia, Australia, and Blackburn (England). Mr. Mackennal has been one of the leading exhibitors of statuary at the Royal Academy exhibitions for .many years past.]
