QUESTION OF CONTEOL. Councillor Ballinger, who will bring b* fore the Citv Council again to-morrow afternoon his motion for tho establishment of a fire board, has received tho following letter from the secretary of, the Hataitai Eatepayers' Association:— I have been requested by my association to thank vou for your action in reference to tho question of a fire board for Wellington Citv, and to express the bona that your efforts in this direction will be successful." ... . Councillor Ballinger has written in replv, stating that he trusts to be able, wi'th the help of tho present councillors, to get tho question' so far settled that rt can go to the ratepayers. He suggests that the Hataitai Eatepayers* Association should get the assistance 01 tho other association to bring the matter to a successful issue. In setting forth at a recent meeting at the council tho financial earing to tho city which he claims would result from the establishment of a firo board, Councillor Ballinger slates that he omitted to credit to the city tho receipt of .£2300 a year, which would have to be paid by the board for the laud and property. The total saving to the city that would result in 26 vears would, therefore, he claims, be .£121,865, instead of .£05,065, as stated by him at tM last-special jncetinjj i-of .the council.
