PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.

(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, June 21. At the monthly meeting of the High School Board of Governors last night the offer of a New Zealand standard from the Education Department was accepted with thanks. Tho Department also asked for information as to the number of free-place pupils at the schools, which the secretary was instructed to furnish. The Nelson College Board of Governors wrote asking for particulars of salaries paid to the High School staff, which information it was decided to send. The chairman reported that the sale of debris from the recent firo had realised £20 lis. 6d. The plans of tho new school submitted by Mr. Clere were approved, and the chairman, the rector, and Mr. W. Eutherfurd were appointed a committee to go into details. The rector (Mr. J. E. Vernon) reported that tho roll number was 192, but sis pupils had left during the term. The average attendance was 178. He suggested that the new school should be furnished throughout with single desks. The Palmerston Orchestral Society will hold the first concert of its fifteenth season on Juno 29. Mr. Prank Johnston ('cellist), of Wellington, and Mr. Percy Tombs (viola), of Hastings, will assist the orchestra. The vocalists will be Miss Irene O'Brien and Mr. F. Baines. A party of tho Palmerston SavageClub will visit the Wellington Savages on July 2. Tho quarterly meeting . of Court Manawatu, A.0.F., last night was attended by over a hundred members, the C.E.j Bro. Wickonden, being in the chair. A motion of condolence was passed to the widow and family of BroWhiteford, lato district secretary, and placing on record tho valuable services which the lato brother had rendered Forestry in tho Wellington district, and especially to Court Manawatu. Tho secretary was also instructed to send letters of sympathy to Bros. C. Lewer and A. E. Mayo in. connection with bereavements. Tho following officers were elected for tho ensuing term: — C.E., Bro. Patten, jnn.; S.C.U., Bro. M, Eosanowski; treasurer, Bro. J. Aitcheson; secretary, Bro. A. J. Yortt: S.W., Bro. D. Weir; J.W., Bro. A. Levy; 5.8., Bro. W. J. Smith; J. 8., Bro. C. Dahl, jun.; auditor, Bro. W. Bobbie; minute secretary, Bro. H. Eelf. District C.E., Bro. Jessen, was nominated for tho position of district secretary. Two new members' wero elected and two more proposed.
