JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.
(By Telesrapß.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, June 18. The valuation of the nowly-added'Ara-moho portion of the borough has just been completed, the annual rateable value of the 1200 ucres involved being placed at .£IO,GOO, which, under existing rates, will provide an income of £'M per annum. Though subjected to severe pounding during the heavy gale of the past two days tho harbour works at Castlcclifi stood splendidly, and sustained no damage whatever. As ■both tho north and south moles have now been run nut to practically the same distanco tho Harbour Hoard has decided to resume work on the north mole, and in a few days' time the pushing of both to a further distance seaward will proceed simultaneously. The heavy gale of the last two days has now blown itself out, and tho weather is fairly iine though still very cold. At the annual meeting of the Wanganui branch of the National Defence League it was decided, in view of the possibility of the league disbanding on-ing to its work being finished, to ask tho officer commanding the public school cadets to take over the supervision of competitions for trophies presented by the league to the school cadets of tho Dominion.
