Joseph Nettleton, formerly of Fiji, emphnsised the danger of Orientalising Polynesia by the introduction of Indian coolies, who woro chiefly the sweepings of tho Calcutta gaols. Tho.Rev. W. L. Blamires, of New Zealand, stated that the lives of the Polynesians were remarkable for Christian virtue and industry. [About 20,000 Indian coolies have been introduced into Fiji to work the sugar plantations there. The Fijians themselves number about 100,000.]
