"ASK NO QUESTIONS."

A MYSTERIOUS STRANGER 'AND S ROLL OP NOTES. The manager of the Dnnedin office of the Victoria Insurance Company received a genuine 'surprise on Friday afternoon, (says the "Otago Daily Times"). On his return from luncheon a clcTk entered his room with such a bewildered expression on his face that the manager believed he had received news of a disastrous fire somewhere, and at once commenced to make inquiries as to the amount of the loss. On cross-examining the bewildered clerk, he elicited the information that a few minutes previously a man had entered the office and asked if the "boss" was in. Receiving a reply in the negative, tho man drew from his pocket a roll of something bulky, telling the clerk to "take this." Asked if he wished to pay a premium, the stranger replied: "Ask no questions, but take it" The clerk took the roll, and found that it was composed of .£lO notes. The visitor was asked whether he wanted a receipt, and the reply again was: "Ask no questions." "But what shall I do with it?" asked the nonplussed clerk. "Give it to tho "boss,' and tell him to acknowledge it in the paper," was the reply of tho stranger, as ho turned to go out of tho office. The manager thanked tho clerk, and sought information as to the identity of the mystcriousi stranger, but beyond the fact that he wore an overcoat with the collar turned up so as to.envelop his chin, ho could obtain no clue. Tho contents of the roll were then counted, and found to run into three figures. The amount was handed over to tho cashier and duly banked in the usual way. The manager is quite in the dark as to the identity of the man who handed over the money.
