At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day, suggestions were put forward that the conservation of a'; fair proportion of native bush on'all 1 holdings should bo considered among improvements." It was pointed out that, while clearing native bush was-; considered as an, improvement, the" planting of other trees—some of them* .rubbish—came under the 'same head. Tho chamber, gavo its support to the suggestion. ' . The business of' the local tramwaysis reported to be increasing at a gratifying rate. The trams are • not only paying all expenses, but are leaving, also a fair amount of profit. The question of a. comprehensive* schemo of electric light and power supply is to receive the attention of the' Borough Council shortly. -It is expected that a report'by an expert'wilE be tie first step,' but there will be no-.' thing definite to put forward for some, time yet, , • ' \ , ■ ■ .
