The' press announced this as being the first of many such shipments, as importers found they could sell New Zealand mutton at a high price after paying a duty 'of 1} per cent, per pound. There is reason to believe, that the meat was diverted to New York at short notice, owing to the high prices prevailing. , Mr. Bennett also says that Australian meat has'been imported into New York, via England, and arrived in excellent condition, and in spite of tho duty sold at a good proiit, at two cents less than American meat, [We published full poxticulaTS of tne shipment of New.
