Webb, is applying for a permanent injunction to prevent the proposed Jeffries-Johnson fight, and also for a temporary injunction against the Kaufmaun-Langford fight, which was arranged-for June 18."Tox" Rickards, principal promoter of- the Jeffries-Johnson meeting, who has built a special .arena of huge dimensions, for the fight, threatens the Governor of tho Stato and the ,At-torney-Glenoral with a claim for damages to recover the, expenditure he has incurred on the contestants, who have been training assiduously. The Governor, Mr. J. N. Gillett, within the past week , has received 200,000 letters from' religious bodies asking him to prevent the fight. The Mayor of San Francisco states: "We run the city, and intend to ignoro the Governor. If Gillett sends tho .National Guardsmen. to prevent the fight, we 'have a strong body of police." Jeffries says: "I hare trained so hard I wouldn't miss the fight even if it were hold in hell." . WHY THE FIGHT IS STOPPED. RELIGIOUS LEADERS' THREAT. (Rec. Juno 17, 11.30 p.m.) ' New York, J\mo 17. The London "Times" New YoTk correspondent reports that Mr. Gillett's decision has been, taken in consequence of threats by religious leadersto deprivo San Fraucisco of a chance of securing selection as tho sito for the World's Fair celebration in connection with the' opening of the Panama Canal. Tho correspondent adds that work at tho amphitheatre, being erected by -Rickards for the fight, has been suspended. NEW SITE SELECTED. RICKARDS MAKES FRESH PLANS. (Rec. Juno 17, 11.30 p.m.) San Francisco, Juno 17. Rickards has abandoned all hope of a fight in San Francisco. Ho now states positively that-the contest will take place on July 4,. probably at Reno, Nevada.
