All the spoil from the cutting, which is being made in . order to widen the road from the wharf to Jliramar Flat, is being thrown into the shallow water of tho bay, so as to make a strip of new laud, retained by a sea-wall, which is under construction. Mr. C. l\ Pulley is the contractor for the whole ot the work, the price being ,£26,103, but ho has sublet all except tho erection of the wall up to low-water mark, the sub-contractors being Messrs. M'Lean Knd Sons are still shooting concrete down through the .water by a tube and are hoping for the best results. . Continuing this glance round the wateifront, the erection of the "J" shed on Waterloo Quay, to.replace tho one which was destroyed by fire, is actively proceeding in the hands of Messrs. Sanders Bros., contractors. The foundations are nearly completed and the brickwork of the first story is begun.. Nearly 40 men 1 are employed on this work, the contract price of which is ,£23,5^7. The erection of the ferro-concrete sea wall and culvert in front of Waterloo Quay is going steadily on, and the filling up of the area to be reclaimed is keeping pace with tho extension of the wall. Air. C. P. Pulley is the contractor for the wall and culvert at a price of. £31,624. The above are the principal harbour works in hand at tho present time.
